According to several media outlets, Pres Obama has decided to donate his Nobel Peace Prize prize money (approx $1.4 MILLION) to charity. Hmm, how nice is that? Personally, as a US taxpayer, I’d like to know why he isn’t going to use it to help payback all the money he’s taken out of our pockets? Sure, he has no problem helping to bail out the financial sector (with the help of Bush) or General Motors or the people who bought a house they couldn’t afford, but when it comes to paying back the people that elected him, that helped to put him in the position he is in today…nope, not going to help them one bit. He’d rather “look” good in the “International” community, IMO.
Look, I’m not one to usually comment on political matters, as I tend to believe they’re all a bunch of crooks and liars (still waiting for the “change” Pres), but something about this just struck me the wrong way. First of all, how does Pres Obama even qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize? He was in office for only about 2 weeks before the nomination deadline and he has done NOTHING “peace” related since he’s been in office (remember, he is fighting 2 wars and contemplating sending more troops in one of them). If you ask me, this is basically a consolation prize for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016 (more BS political crap…).
So, I would like to ask President Obama, why don’t you do the right thing and donate your prize money to the American taxpayers? Now, I’m not saying that you should send each of us a check, but why not use it to pay down the national debit? Why not use it to help pay back TARP funds? or any of your bailouts? or your beloved Health Care proposal? or, better yet, why not use it to help stimulate the American economy? I’m quite sure that someone in your braintrust (and I’m using that term rather loosely) should be able to come up with some other way to spend your prize money, perhaps something that will help most, if not all, Americans in the long run.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not against domating to charities (far from it), but considering as Mr. Obama probably wouldn’t have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize without the American people electing him President, perhaps he should start paying us back…At the very least, he should put his (prize) money where his mouth is and do the same thing he’s asking the rest of us Americans to do and boost our broken economy.
